Anna Irina Russell IN RESiDENCE at the School Doctor Puigvert

https://www.annairinarussell.com/

She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, where she later did a masters in Sound Art. She is one of the long-term residents at Hangar and she collaborates with Ràdio Web Macba, while also working at the museum as an educator. Her artistic practice is based on what is recreational, as a tool for researching into the codes and means of communication and interaction, and she aims to point out established social constructions. In the actions and installations she works on, there is a real time, live component which sees the audience not as an object but as a subject that becomes an essential part of the action.

She has recently presented the individual exhibition “Una luz cegadora” [A Blinding Light] at the Bombon Projects gallery, as part of Art Nou 2020. She has also shown her work in exhibitions such as “FEMINISMES!” at the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB) and “Osmosi” at Cityart (Milan). She took part in SWAB 2019, in the presentation of the new Suñol Foundation venue and she exhibited her individual work at the Can Framis - Fundació Vilacasas Museum during Museum Night 2018. She has taken part in various residencies, such as GYCF 2019 in Jeju (South Korea), BCN>TNS>ALG at JISER (Barcelona), Reitir (Iceland) and Sketch’m Up (Marseilles), always in collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects.

Institut Doctor Puigvert is very close to the Trinitat road network and the course of the Besòs river. It was opened in 1985, although the current building was not inaugurated until the 1991-92 school year. Its faculty agreed to name it the Institut Doctor Puigvert in honour of the urologist Antoni Puigvert (1905-1990), whose childhood was closely linked to Sant Andreu.
