Jaume Pitarch IN RESiDENCE at the School Moisès Broggi
http://angelsbarcelona.com/en/artists/jaime-pitarchIn his work, the artist Jaume Pitarch (Barcelona, 1963) explores human beings’ inability to identify with the structures that we ourselves have created. The feeling of loss or inadequacy before these structures leads us to interpret the world and ourselves consistently and intuitively, in order to fit into them. Pitarch uses elements made by people, inhabited by people, or elements that have helped people to construct a sense of themselves and the world. These objects are dismembered and reconstructed. The distance between the original object and the new, generally dysfunctional piece acts as a reflection of the space between the original being and the person, between collective structures and our limited adaptation or identification with them. The new object reminds us of our loss and the need to stay upright, as the artist often presents pieces or elements that are in a situation of balance and uncertainty.
Exhibitions: Despacio / Destiempo (Galería Fúcares, Madrid, 2013); Galerija Vartai, Lithuania, 2011; Beautiful Unglittering Things (Spencer Brownstone Gallery, New York, 2009); Galería Fúcares, Madrid, 2008; Solo Projects, Arco 2009, Arco 2008, Madrid; Arts al Palau (Palau Ducal de Gandia, 2007); Some almost broke thing (Spencer Brownstone Gallery, New York, 2006); Arco 2006; Hales Gallery, Londres, 2002; among others. His work has also been selected for many events and group exhibitions: Duet (Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, Portugal, 2013); La imagen especular - Tirar del hilo (Artium, 2012); The Workers (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, 2011); El ángel exterminador - A Room for Spanish Contemporary Art (BOZAR, Brussels, 2010); La vida en este lado (Espacio Líquido, Gijón, 2009); Visión: f(icción) (São Paulo Cultural Centre, 2009). Jaume Pitarch’s work is present in such collections and galleries as the Museo Patio Herreriano de Valladolid, MACBA, the Royal College of Art, London, and the Bergé Collection in Madrid. In his work, the artist Jaume Pitarch (Barcelona, 1963) explores human beings’ inability to identify with the structures that we ourselves have created. School Moisès Broggi
www.institutbroggi.orgThis academic year, the school is taking part in IN RESIDENCE for the second time, with a group of fourth-year ESO compulsory education pupils.

In 2011, the Institut Moisès Broggi embarked on a profound transformation of the centre's educational programme, which is based on project-based work in which art plays a central role. Working in alliance with institutions in the surrounding area and in the city, such as the MACBA, the Sala Beckett and the Hospital de Sant Pau, among others, gives it a special dynamism.
