Joan Negrescolor (Barcelona, 1978)

He studied illustration at the Massana School, where he graduated in 2003. Subsequently, he attended various courses such as the International Seminar on Illustration and Design in Albarracín and the Master's Degree in Children's Illustration at the EINA School.

Over the last few years, his work has mainly focused on poster design, press and advertising, but recently, he has specialised in the world of illustrated albums. His first book as an author, ‘A Cidade dos Animais’ (Orfeu Negro 2017), has received numerous awards and recognitions and has been translated into more than six languages. In 2019, he published his second book ‘EU, ALFONSINA’ (Orfeu Negro 2020, Portugal).

Joan Negrescolor likes to explore the expression and poetics of images. His work is characterised by a captivating narrative, a range of impossible colours with a powerful composition, a personal register in each of the projects he undertakes. He builds a coherent and personal formal and conceptual discourse in every project he takes part in, and he surprises everyone by leaving behind him a rich and valuable imagery.

This is the second time in a row that the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán School (Sant Adrià de Besòs) has taken part in IN RESiDENCE. The previous edition hosted the creative processes of Rafa Castañer and Chús Portela, with the mediation of L'Afluent. This year a group of 3rd year secondary school students will be taking part.

During the 1980s, two important buildings were built in Sant Adrià, practically side by side: the Catalunya School and, in a second phase, the Sant Adrià del Besòs Secondary School, which in 2004 was renamed the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán Secondary School. Both buildings were designed by the architect Oriol Bohigas (1925-2021). The current name of the school is associated with the writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán (1939-2003), in permanent homage to his status as a chronicler of the life that takes place on the outskirts of cities and in the most invisible spaces forgotten by the usual narratives.
