Lara Martínez IN RESiDENCE at the School Sagrera Sant Andreu
Lara MartínezLara Martínez (Esplugues de Llobregat, 1989)
At the age of 10, I found some poems I had written a few years earlier. Seeing them made me so angry that I tore them up. I liked to burn things at that time, so maybe I did that. This memory, which was once full of regret, is now more indifferent to me; however, I miss that seven-year-old me who wrote cheesy poems and who from time to time reappears.
My name is Lara Martínez and I was born in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona) in 1989. I studied graphic design, communication and culture, and I have worked in the artistic-cultural sector in different roles. I am currently a resident at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació, and I have just finished the residency grant in mediation at the Centre d'Arts Santa Mònica (2022-2024).
I started in art as a graphic designer, but over time I have worked as a producer, communications technician, artist, cultural manager and workshop leader. I'm a multidisciplinary artist because I do many things at the same time without being an expert in anything. Since 2015, I've been making “fanzines”, and in 2023 I published the book “Diente Muerto” with the Escriptura Silvestre grant from Hangar and La Escocesa, published by Edicions La Escocesa (Barcelona).
I have long been reciting texts, mine and others, at random. Sometimes they are poems, sometimes not. I like to work frugally, recycling ideas and materials whenever I can. I have recently started different sound projects: Patty i Selma, a DJ set with Wanda del Rio; Lora, an improvisation group with Laura Paz; and Bolsa, a no-wave-punk band with Marisa.
I take part in creative processes inside and outside artistic institutions, producing drawings, videos, poems, texts, ‘performances’, sound pieces, collages, etc. Nevertheless, of all the things I know, I choose summer (Bruno Soberon, eleven years old, Argentina; a phrase I got to know thanks to Tatiana Donoso, who heard it in a podcast). Besides summer, I like participating in collective creation processes and meeting with people to learn to be together and think about how to do things a little better.

School Sagrera Sant Andreu
https://agora.xtec.cat/inslasagreraThis is the third time in a row that La Sagrera Sant Andreu School has taken part in IN RESiDENCE. The artists in residence have previously been Martina Rogers (2022-2023) and Tatiana Donoso (2023-2024), with the mediation of L'Afluent. Once again, a group of students from the 4th year secondary school will take part.

Sagrera Sant Andreu is a newly created educational centre, launched in the 2019-2020 school year. The neighbourhood association of La Sagrera and the Sant Andreu AMPES Coordinating Committee were actively involved in the creation of this new public secondary school. The school is very close to Fabra i Coats and is now located in the premises at Carrer Fernando Pessoa 10, awaiting a definitive location inside the railway triangle.
