Las Cosas IN RESiDENCE at the School Narcís Monturiol
Las CosasLas Cosas (Barcelona, 2022)
We are an interdisciplinary group that focuses on developing long-lasting situational performance practices. Through action, they generate creative, reflective and critical ideas about how we move through and inhabit the places where we find ourselves, how we relate to everything that also is there and shapes us. We see these spaces as the realm of relationships (human and non-human), of practices of participation and cooperation, whose character is a system of resonances in which there is nothing in it that acts individually, nor anything that does not depend on all the rest. Therefore, we understand creation as a collaborative gesture that is provoked by frequency, cohabitation, listening to gestures, stories and materials that represent a place.
Glòria Ros is a dancer and creator who has based her artistic practice around improvisation as a method for creating sound and movement pieces, with an interest in documenting research through writing; Mauricio Sierra, with a background in dramatic art and performance studies, has promoted creative processes in which he explores contemporary languages in non-conventional spaces, with an interest in literariness and audience participation; Iver Zapata, who is a creator, dancer and performer, and whose motivation is focused on bringing things into contemporary queer and ecofeminist theories so as to reveal the sensitive and emotional characters embedded in them, and, from creation, to think of more habitable worlds.
Our work has taken the form of both artistic and educational projects. We came together in 2022 for the performance ‘En silenci però junts’, created by María José Arjona for the MACBA. This long-term project provided us with a foundation on which to continue carrying out our work. Later on, we conducted a research residency at the Hotel Pol & Grace (Barcelona, 2023/2024), commissioned by The Over Gallery. At the same time, Arts Santa Mònica offered us a performative participation in the exhibition ‘L'altre costat’ (2024). Between 2024 and 2025, MACBA's department of educational projects has invited us to organise exploration workshops with families and schools to share our artistic practice.

School Narcís Monturiol
www.insmonturiol.catThis is the eighth time that the Narcís Monturiol School (Montbau, Horta-Guinardó) has taken part in IN RESiDENCE. Previous editions have featured creative processes by Mar Arza, Martí Sales, Bruno Ollé, Consuelo Bautista, Jordi Lafon, STA and Lautaro Reyes. Once again, a group of 3rd year secondary school students is taking part in this year's edition.

At the bottom of Collserola, on Carrer de l'Armonia (Montbau), Narcís Monturiol School is a relatively small school, with two compulsory secondary education groups and one upper secondary school. The school has been in existence for fifty-six years, and the size of the school means that knowledge throughout the educational sphere is possible and that the involvement of everyone in the school is one of its distinguishing features.
