Laura Llaneli IN RESiDENCE at the School Barres i Ones
The intended process at IN RESiDENCE is based on the artist's first concerns about sound, listening and the so-called ‘sound art’. Usually, sound is worked on in connection with music, but the aim here is to expand the musical concept, as artists have been doing since the sixties, by linking it to the visual experience. Any sound can be music and the sounds themselves already have their own peculiarities, which make them interesting. Moreover, by listening to our surroundings and our daily life, we can discover aspects of everyday life that are often hidden. Based on these concepts and various related activities (listening exercises, sound walks, creation of visual scores, “Foley”, etc.), the aim is to begin by exploring and opening up the world linked to the visual, and then to gather the group's personal experiences so as to focus on the final project.
One possible approach is the creation of a sonorous-noisy chorale worked on video. Based on previous works by the artist herself, such as ‘Take Five’ (2015), “Anant d'una extremitat a l'altra...” (2021), or “Mevaveu” (2023) and the direct inspiration of the piece “Four Seasons” by Tania Candiani, the work starts by creating a choir where the pupils use their voices to imitate different sounds found at the school, making them their own.
However, the idea is to have a very open process so that the concept of the piece varies, but at the same time it is focused from the outset on making a collaborative sound-visual creation.
