Mar Arza IN RESiDENCE at the School Narcís Monturiol
www.mararza.comMar Arza (Castelló de la Plana, 1976) is torn between literature and visual arts, in a dreamworld where writing merges with sculpture. She reflects on language and turns it into a malleable raw material taken directly from books, which are her source of inspiration and research, far beyond their rigid folding format. Her artistic training is developed in schools, with teachers from Valencia, Pittsburgh, Winchester, Florence and Barcelona.
In her professional career, she regularly collaborates with art galleries and printing houses and she is getting gradually involved with teaching and education.

School Narcís Monturiol
www.insmonturiol.catThe high-school Narcís Monturiol wishes to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Saint George’s literary contest in a very special way, by getting involved in the project ‘Creators IN RESIDENCE at high-schools in Barcelona’ so that the artist Mar Arza will be working with the group of 28 students aged 16 years old that are taking the subject Visual and Plastic Arts. This project is also made available to the rest of 16-year-old students and to the rest of classes. Besides Visual and Plastic Arts Department, other learning areas are also involved: Music, Catalan language, Spanish language, Classical language, English language, Computer Sciences and History.
“We are hopeful and eager with this project and we believe that this experience, working at the school in collaboration with an artist of plastic arts, is a good access to a world of new discoveries and a challenge for our future work”.

Institut Narcís Monturiol has been running for 55 years and is a small school with two secondary and one high school. The size of the school means that knowledge in the whole educational sphere is possible and that the involvement of everyone in the school is one of its distinguishing features.
