Marc Villanueva IN RESiDENCE at the School Maria Espinalt

Born in Barcelona in 1992. He graduated in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy at Barcelona's Institut del Teatre and in Literary Studies at the University of Barcelona. He has done a masters in Applied Theatre Studies at the Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft, in Giessen, Germany.

His artistic projects critically question political problems using contemporary languages, focusing especially on the ethical dimensions and problems of portrayal, the performativity of discourse and the interactions between knowledge and power.

His most recent projects include El candidato (o candidata) (Teatre Lliure, 2020), Prospective Actions (Catalunya 2004-2018) (Prague Quadriennal, 2019), Correspondence #1 on the Importance of Time and Place, the Territory (Festival der jungen Talente, 2018) and Sous la plage (Festival TNT, 2016).

In addition to his own productions, he works as a dramatist in creative shows and interdisciplinary productions, such as On the Other Side, by Marike Splint (Skirball Los Angeles, 2020), AM27, by Javier Guerrero (Grec Festival 2019) and Gentry, by the Mos Maiorum group (Grec Festival 2018). He is a member of the editorial board for the magazine (Pausa.) Quadern de Teatre Contemporani.

This is the fourth year running that IES Maria Espinalt (El Poblenou, Sant Martí) is taking part in IN RESiDENCE. Previous creation processes were developed by Makea Tu Vida, Joan Colomo and Anna Dot. The school is taking part this year with 1st- and 2nd-year compulsory secondary education (ESO) students.

The Institut Maria Espinalt is a new secondary school that opened its doors in the 2016-2017 academic year. The team behind it aim to create a centre where pupils are at the heart of the school’s educational activity, an activity characterised by a change in the traditional roles in its community.
