Pep Vidal (Terrassa, 1980)

He is a Barcelona-born artist and scientist with a degree in mathematics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is particularly interested in infinitesimal calculus, topology and infinite series. Vidal also has a PhD in Physics from the UAB and is a member of the ALBA synchrotron. His doctoral thesis focused on algorithms for improving the precision of instruments used in particle accelerators. Through this research, he reached two key conclusions, saying, “There are extremely complex and sensitive systems, and I am not interested in research where personal and vital experience is not linked to the same process”. His line of scientific research has also been a constant in his artistic work, which includes artistic-scientific projects on infinitesimal changes, minimal changes that are constantly present all over the world.

Over the last few years, he has been artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, at Hangar, Barcelona, and at FARE, Milan. He has won several awards, including the GAC (Galeries d'Art de Catalunya) 2019 for the best emerging artist exhibition in a gallery, the International Visual Arts Award from the Botín Foundation, and the Generation Award from the Montemadrid Foundation. He has exhibited his work individually at the Abrons Arts Center, New York, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya-MNAC, Barcelona, and Maczul, Maracaibo. He has also participated in several group exhibitions at museums and art centres such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain in Bordeaux, and CENTRALE for Contemporary Art, Brussels. His work is part of public and private collections such as the Archive of the MACBA Study and Documentation Centre in Barcelona, the MNCARS Library and Documentation Centre in Madrid, and the MoMA Library in New York.

This is the sixth time in a row that the Escola Trinitat Nova School (Trinitat Nova, Nou Barris) has taken part in IN RESiDENCE. Previous editions have included the creative processes of Isamit Morales, Arnau Sala, Lina Bautista, Xesca Salvà and Pato Mena. Once again, a group of 3rd year secondary school students is taking part.

The Trinitat Nova School is defined as a global educational project that is configured as a single educational centre (0-16 years) as part of a wider range of social and educational facilities and activities in the Trinitat Nova neighbourhood. The ieTN's proposal links educational and community action, assuming its role as a cultural and educational agent involved in the transformation processes in the neighbourhood.
