Interventions at the school and audiovisual record
Over the course of the academic year, the group built up a bank of images with a view to creating a mosaic showing many small performances in the Maternitat site where the school is located, in order to signify the place, study attitudes and exercise a presence there.
Work focused on the surroundings, the experience of the place, with a search for locations and connections between the history of the site and the pupils' own lives, through small artistic gestures that generated meaning. The pupils, the artist and the teachers went round the site, exploring and discovering spaces, materials, objects, sounds and architectural and sculptural features to document and make interventions on. All this activity was recorded and brought together to make the film featuring different moments in the process: preparation, installation, performance and documentation.
Presentation at the school
A route was prepared around different places occupied by the school -the lobby, the classroom, the playground, the dining room and the library- to present the performances or the marks that these generated.
The route was shown on a leaflet handed out at the entrance. At each site where there was an intervention or documentation on a performance, a group of pupils informed visitors about the action, describing the process and answering any questions.
The pupils and the artist staged the final presentation of the film in the school library. Teachers also took part, and the event was also attended by friends and family members and by representatives from ICUB and Barcelona Education Consortium. The presentation itself was included on the final film: Comprensions inesperades [Unexpected Understandings].
