Tatiana Donoso (Chile, 1970).

I have a degree in History of Art and a Masters in Cultural Heritage Management from the University of Barcelona (UB9), and I currently work in heritage institutions as an archive technician specialising in photography.

My artistic practice focuses on activating physical memories linked to the experience of exile and migration, as well as biopolitics in relation to motherhood and healing, putting photography in dialogue with other artistic disciplines such as poetry and painting to create interventions in the family photographic and documentary archive.

I started my professional career in photography thanks to the Fotopres'99 grant from La Caixa, with the project Nacer en casa. Holanda y la revolución del nacimiento, just after finishing my studies at the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC), in 1998. From 2004-2007 I worked on the migrant experience in the project Acciones Periféricas, (Generation 2005 Caja Madrid Grant), and El viaje de Gaye, ¿Somos lo que comemos? with the journalist Magda Bandera (Fundación Norte Grant 2006), exhibited again in 2012 at the Museu de la Immigració de Catalunya (Sant Adrià del Besòs, Barcelona).

After a few years dedicated to childcare, in 2019 I developed for Pla de Barris (Barcelona) the exhibition project Mi memòria camina por estas calles, about the migratory experience of women in the Trinitat Vella neighbourhood, curated by the Observatori de la Vida Quotidiana.

I combined these artistic projects with other more intimate processes of memory, such as the textile book Mi segundo nombre es Soledad (2017), where, in order to approach the family memory of exile, I incorporated textile, embroidery and collage processes to interact with the family photographic and documentary archive.

I am currently working on the poem Madre Nebulosa, which explores the memory of childhood exile linked to the experience of being a mother, a daughter, a granddaughter, which will be published by RIL next year.

I have also researched the memories of the body around care and motherhood with the work En qué gasto mi tiempo (2018-20), Manual de instrucciones para irse de la olla (2017-18) and Un àlbum familiar de cures (2017-18), in which I have dealt with the erasure and resistance of the body that I care for through my own experience as a mother, using different formats and techniques.

In 2022 I attended the Residència Creart 08030 a l’Ateneu l’Harmonia (Sant Andreu, Barcelona) with the Poesia Ordinària project, where I was the driving force behind poetry meetings and readings, and I am currently a resident at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de creació, with the project Poesia ordinària + El club del fracàs, together with the artist Lara Martínez, where we do different workshops and activities based on poetry and visual arts.

The project Un àlbum familiar de cures has been awarded the Temporals 2023 grant by the ICUB, and has also been acquired by the Pla Nacional de Fotografia 2022, and is part of the collection of the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona.
