Toni Giró IN RESiDENCE at the School Bernat Metge

www.tonigiro.net

He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and is an artist, exhibition designer and museographer. He was awarded the ACCA Prize in 2008 and the GAC Award in 2023.

Some of his work has been shown in Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Prague, Madrid, Montpellier, New York and Valencia, as well as other cities. His most recent exhibitions include “Res és possible, tot es mou” at the Centre de Lectura de Reus (Tarragona), “L'obsolet absolut” at Can Manyé, Espai d'Art i Creació, Alella (Barcelona) and “Revelacions” at the Galeria El quadern robat, Barcelona.

Be it through sculptures, installations or through extensive series of drawings, photographs and video projects, his works reveal a subtle apprehension of reality and a critical reflection that revisits historical crossroads and problematic moments as potential situations in which to imagine alternatives to the dominant reality.

Toni Giró is back to participate in IN RESiDENCE, after having participated in the 8th edition (2016-2017), at the Josep Serrat Bonastre School (Sant Gervasi, Barcelona), with a group of 4th year secondary school students. They presented the final work, #MONU#mentalismes, at the Museu Marès (2017) and, subsequently, at the collective exhibition “Aquí hem trobat un espai per pensar. 10 anys EN RESiDÈNCiA” (2019, Fabra i Coats: Centre d'Art, Barcelona).

This year a group of students from the first year of secondary school will take part in the project.
