Violeta Mayoral IN RESiDENCE at the School Vall d’Hebron
I would like to start working on listening from various angles. On one hand, from a practical angle, through a series of exercises designed for the classroom and, on the other, from the presentation of the context and of a series of artists of reference in this field. And to show them that listening is not just determined by what is audible but also by other senses, by language and the influence of the field of expectations. Following this line, we will do exercises to strengthen the sense of listening by disabling the visual range, and we will see that language influences the determination of sound.
Starting with listening favours understanding and prepares the ground for introducing the creation of sound. Firstly, I will introduce them to a series of artists who are essential for these themes and, secondly, I would like to carry out a series of group exercises which demonstrate that listening is not just what fosters what is sound, but that sustains synchronisation and group connections, in other words, that without listening there is no sound event. Additionally, one of my lines of research has to do with spatiality and awareness of sound. I would like to do a series of exercises linked to these themes, in which we explore space, the distance from what is heard.
Another of the themes to develop will be the sound object and performativity.
Starting with these themes will enable me to introduce various disciplines that work with performance, the event/action, visual art, etc., so that the students can understand that one theme can be developed in an interdisciplinary way, with different formats and, above all, it will lead me to tackle the creative process so they integrate it, as it will have a very important role throughout the academic year.
